Can I ride the baby camel?
No. Sandy isn't ready to give rides just yet. You are welcome to meet and pet her. It takes a bit of time to train them to learn to ride and obey commands. They generally need to be a year old before training starts. They usually start doing rides around 3 years old.

Can I pet your camels?
Sure. They love the attention they receive during events.

Can I ride with my child?
Yes. Two people can ride comfortably. You can enjoy the ride with your child.

What states do you visit?
We visit VA, NC, SC, GA, FL and TN.

Can you do an indoor venue?
Yes. We can set up in an indoor events center.

Will you do a private event?
Yes. Please contact us with your needs and dates. Prices will be quoted according to needs and information given.

How many people man the ride?
Three people are usually working our ride. One person to greet riders, one person to assist riders on and off the camel and one person working with the camels.

Is their hump made of water?
No, their humps are composed of fat. Their humps are also bigger or smaller depending on how much they've eaten. The fat reserves in their humps are used to store energy.

What are male and female camels called?
The male is called a 'bull'. The female is called a 'cow'. A young camel is called a 'calf'. A group of camels is referred to as a 'herd'.

How long do camels live?
Camels usually live to around 40 years of age.

How long is the female pregnant?
The mother camel is pregnant for 13 months.

Do camels spit?
Our camels are very calm and gentle. Spitting is usually not an issue. Camels are much more prone to spit at each other than at people. Spitting is not in our camels normal routine.

How much weight can they carry?
In general, camels can carry 330 lbs. for 8 hours or so.

How tall are they?
Camels are usually 6 to 7 feet tall at their shoulders.

How much do they weigh?
Grown camels range from 550 to 1500 pounds.

Why do their knees look 'odd'?
These are bare spots they are born with. The hair has not rubbed off these areas. It is simply a patch of tough skin they are born with.

Their feet look odd. Do they have a hoof like a horse?
No, a camel has a padded foot. When it steps down, the pad spreads out so it can walk on the sand. It works much the same was as a person wearing snowshoes.

What do they eat?
Generally they eat hay, dry grains, bread and crunchy fruits and vegetables. Salt is a very important part of their diet. They also really enjoy a snack of animal crackers. If food is hard to find, they will eat anything; dried leaves, seeds, thorny twigs, bones, meat, leather or whatever it can find.

Do they drink a lot?
Not really. However, a grown camel in very hot weather can drink up to 53 gallons of water in a day.

Can they really go without water?
Yes, a healthy camel is unaffected by the lack of water for 10 days or more.
